Hollywood Spirituality – Part 2

1 10 2011

“Most prophets worked for social justice but didn’t achieve it in their lifetime.” I’m sure you’ve heard many people say they don’t believe in God, but yet they believe in right and wrong, in Justice and love, well all these things point to God. Ezekiel one of the great prophets in the Bible speaks of these things. An interesting note for me about Ezekiel is how he receives his call in exile while he was thirty years old. It was while he was beside the Kebar river in Babylon, that the heavens were opened to him and he saw visions of God. The Lord gave him a message and he felt the hand of the Lord take hold of him. The people of Israel were rebellious but God was about to send them a prophet whom He knew they would reject because of his message.

God knew how hard-hearted and stubborn the people of Israel were thats why he made Ezekiel as hard and stubborn as they were. He made him as hard as rock! (Eze 3:9) I see very many similarities of myself in Ezekiel and maybe you do too.

Right and wrong is a basic human instinct many would argue. We judge a person’s character based on their behavior. And whilst most hollywood movies depict the protagonist as an advocate for good and not evil. There is a sense of justice to be had or to be found in the way characters portray their roles in a social drama with love cast as the source for hope. Yet, the credits at the end of a movie are often reserved for the director and the producers. They acknowledge in movies the work of the artist who makes all of that come together but what about in real life. Do we acknowledge the one who ultimately directs and produces every scene we have ever had or will have. Debates on whether science or faith is the root cause of life here on earth has been going on for ages. But what if you were presented with the facts. I believe it would still take a measure of faith for you to be able to pick a side.

God is not looking for you to give him the answers, he is the answer. He is the answer to overcoming every weakness known to man. When we lose the ability to trust in Him, we lose the ability to trust in each other.

I’ve found my purpose in life and that is to seek social justice. Does that mean i’m a prophet? I’ll leave that to God, He is the judge.

Ezekiel 36:24-27

For I will gather you up from all the nations and bring you home again to your land. “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
